The triple bottom line
The three pillars of sustainable consumption are moreover reflected in the so-called triple bottom line, commonly abbreviated as TBL or 3BL. The idea behind the triple bottom line is that companies do not only measure their profit and loss account but also their ‘people’ and ‘planet’ account. By assessing the triple bottom line, companies increasingly turn their attention to their social and environmental performance next to financial growth.

The SDGs serve as guidelines with the aim of facilitating concrete action. They integrate the three sustainability dimensions and are formulated to ensure that our future is economically, ecologically, and socially sustainable in the long run.
