You can always give something, even if you have "nothing". Here are a few ideas on supporting sustainability even if you are short of money.

DONATING

Donating to second-hand shops and humanitarian institutions (e.g., The Red Cross): Remember to fact-check to support ones that are transparent and genuinely help.

GIFTING

A few ideas:

  • A pot with a planted seed or a flower that you replanted from your garden, with a nice tag and instructions on how to take care of it.

  • A sourdough starter you’ve made yourself to bake delicious homemade bread.

  • A bundle of your favourite books with personalized messages.

  • A collection of nicely framed pictures of your favourite memories.

  • A newspaper or outdated sailing maps are wrapping paper.

  • If you are looking for more, the topic of Gifts & Gifting→ has a dedicated section on our manual’s website where you can find many more tips.

VOTING & ACTIVISM

  • Sign petitions.

  • Raise awareness by discussing sustainability with your friends and family.

VOLUNTEERING

Research shows that volunteering improves physical and mental well-being, enhances professional skills and boosts career opportunities. Overall, it increases happiness.
There is always a good cause in your community to support. Clean-ups, environmental education workshops, collection services, etc. Just browse the web or your local Facebook group to learn which group is looking for a helping hand.
