WHAT IS RECYCLED PLASTIC?
Recycled plastic is collecting plastic items (such as bottles, containers, or packaging), sorting, cleaning, and reprocessing them to produce new plastic products.
The goal of recycling plastic is to divert used plastic items from traditional waste disposal methods, such as landfills or incineration.
The intention is to create a closed-loop system that reduces the demand for new virgin plastic production.
Plastics can only be recycled a limited number of times until they have to be disposed of in landfills.
IS RECYCLED PLASTIC TRULY SUSTAINABLE?
Plastic recycling conserves resources, reduces waste, creates a lower carbon footprint and is a step into a circular approach.
However, it is not a solution to solve plastic pollution. It is just a way to reduce the pollution, only. Instead, we need to tackle the origin of the issue, which is virgin plastic production.
